Western U.S. power grid’s latest addition – EDAM – is now live!

Earlier today, to better optimize western power grid operations, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and PacifiCorp successfully launched the Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM). The new day-ahead market will build on the success of the Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM). Since its 2014 launch, the real-time WEIM has generated more than $8.6 billion in benefits for participating utilities and their customers. Like the WEIM, the new day-ahead market will leverage the West’s diverse resource mix and interconnected transmission system to create real savings for customers. Portland General Electric has signed an implementation agreement and is scheduled to begin participating in October, with four additional western utilities joining in 2027. Powering good!
