"The transformation of energy management is rapidly unfolding,” said Bob Madonna, CEO of Savant. He continued, “[…is rapidly unfolding] through greater access to complete and affordable home automation capabilities that can be coupled with the installation of renewable resources.”
The company partnered with Tantalus to manage and meet increased demand. “Partnering with Tantalus to integrate our behind-the-meter capabilities with their TRUSense Gateway will provide an unparalleled and targeted load control capability that reduces the strain on the grid by providing more options to curtail overall energy usage and correspondingly reduce energy costs for consumers,” said Savant.
Digitization has created a need for more cloud resources and energy management. Crippling inflation and rising energy costs have contributed to higher operational expenses for utilities. Regional transmission organization, PJM's long-term load forecast predicts load growth of 0.8 percent per year for summer peaks, 1 percent for winter peaks and 1.4 percent for net energy over a 10-year planning horizon starting in 2023. PJM’s forecast model did not include climate change, but the organization has plans to evaluate both warming trends and extreme weather events in winter and summer.
“The DOE is funding projects that will ensure the continued operation of these facilities [data centers] while reducing the associated carbon emissions to beat climate change and reach our clean energy future,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm.
Energy management is vital to the success of electrification. Tantalus president and CEO, Peter Londa, said, “Providing the necessary visibility, accessibility and control of these types of applications with an unparalleled level of precision will enhance system planning and load balancing across the utility industry as well as enable utilities to protect critical infrastructure across their distribution grids.”
