Too Many Data Center Developers Claim 'I've Got a Gigawatt'

The data center industry is teeming with developers claiming to have timely access to a gigawatt of power, who in fact do not, says Mark McComiskey of AVAIO Digitial.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2026 PTC event in Honolulu, McComiskey notes his background in the electricity industry, and says he finds it impossible that everyone saying they can access a gigiwatt of power actually can. "There are very, very few places where you can legitimately deliver a gigawatt of power from the grid at any timeframe that is reasonable," McComiskey tells Cool Vector. "You'd be looking at more than 10 years for most sites."

McComiskey says he often here's developers say, "'Oh yeah I've got a gigawatt delivering in 2028,' and you're like, 'No, you don't."
