Tesla has a charging station https://lnkd.in/eyv7W_qS in a beautiful Live, Work, Play development in an affluent part of a big US city. It had 12 charging locations and was filled with 11 of the prettiest Tesla’s you ever wanted to see. I have never seen a charging station so full of EV’s.
However, the transmission and distribution around this beautiful and progressive all underground development looks like it was designed and built decades ago with our grandfather's standards.
If we want our customers to believe that electrification of everything makes good sense and that we are "re-imagining the grid" https://lnkd.in/djpabfy and designing an electric grid for that electrified future, we cannot continue to operate and maintain the antiquated electric infrastructure shown in this picture.
Notwithstanding the high probability that these overloaded structures don't meet the NESC or ASCE 74Â https://lnkd.in/eU_egcaC, it is hard to see how our customers think we are ready for the emerging technologies of the 21st Century.
Put the electric underground and out of sight. Make the phone, cable and fiber do the same. Then, you will look like the 21st Century (with reliability and resiliency to match) and like you should be driving one of those Tesla's not an Edsel.
