Project ‘Waterworth’ – Wow!

Yesterday, Meta, announced an ambitious plan to build Project Waterworth, a global subsea cable project, that when complete, will reach five continents and span over 50,000 km (about 31,000 miles) – making it the world’s longest subsea cable ever. The multi-billion-dollar investment will strengthen the scale and reliability of the world’s digital highways by opening three new oceanic corridors with high-speed connectivity – all to drive artificial intelligence (AI) innovation and technology around the globe. To maintain cable resilience and enhance the overall speed of development, advanced engineering will be deployed. This includes first-of-its-kind routing to maximize cable laid in deep water — at depths up to 7,000 meters, and the incorporation of enhanced burial techniques in high-risk fault areas, such as shallow waters near the coast, to avoid damage from ship anchors and other hazards. Impressive engineering!
