Northern Virginia represents the largest data center market globally!

This detailed map, generated by National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) talented Billy Roberts, provides a revealing visual to where all those facilities reside and the power grid that surrounds them. The state’s data center market is projected to add 6.5 gigawatts (GW) of power capacity by the end of 2025, with a total of 27.5 GW expected by 2027. Virginia accounts for nearly 30% of the total power capacity in the United States. According to Virgina state officials, the drivers behind the recent surge in data center development include market prominence, strong fiber networks, supply of reliable energy, available land, proximity to major national customers, and the creation of a state data center tax incentive. Thanks so much for the shout out regarding Hitachi Energy’s Velocity Suite mapping services and data. Powering good!
