We Energies has proposed adding nearly 3 GW of capacity—including solar, storage, and gas—to power Wisconsin’s growing data center load. (WPR)
The $5B plan includes 7 solar projects (1.1 GW), a 180 MW battery system, and 2 gas plants totaling 1.4 GW, plus upgrades to existing facilities. The projects would come online between 2028 and 2029 if approved by the PUC.
Execs say the mix of renewables and gas reflects an “all-of-the-above” reliability strategy. The first phase of Microsoft’s Mount Pleasant data center alone will use more power than all Milwaukee homes combined, driving urgency for new supply.
