Owners of Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y can now use their cars to send electricity to their homes in the case of outages or grid strain (a capability known as vehicle-to-home, or V2H).
But: V2H is only possible if the home has a Tesla Powerwall home battery (priced around $9K). The car plus Powerwall can extend home backup backup storage capabilities by over two days.Â
Coming soon? The models can’t send power to the grid…yet. But Cybertrucks in parts of CA and TX can, as part of a virtual power plant program.Â
