A new Texas data center will run on power generated by nearby wind turbines that can’t make it onto the state’s congested grid. (Texas Tribune)
Soluna Holdings is building the 166 MW Project Kati facility next to the Las Majadas Wind Project, tapping so-called “stranded energy” that’s otherwise curtailed due to transmission constraints.
The first 83 MW phase, focused on Bitcoin hosting, will launch in 2026, followed by a second phase supporting AI and HPC.
Thanks to ERCOT rules like netting and sleeving, Soluna can bypass transmission tolls and lock in stable long-term energy pricing, making this model increasingly attractive as Texas’s grid strains under rising data demand.
