NEWS: Solar, storage are booming, but federal policy is driving costs higher

82% of new US grid capacity in the first half of 2025 came from solar and storage, but federal actions are nudging prices higher, per new data from SEIA/WoodMac. (Utility Dive)

  • Costs are creeping up: +2% residential, +10% commercial, and +4% utility-scale, thanks to Trump-era tariffs and permitting changes. Policy shifts under the recent budget bill could cut up to 55 GW of solar deployment by 2030, a 21% decline from pre-bill forecasts.

  • And yet: The US added 7.5 GWdc of solar in Q2—up 28% from Q1, but 24% below last year. Texas led with 3.8 GW, followed by California, Indiana, and Arizona.
