Missouri has approved a new large-load tariff aimed at making data centers and other big power users cover the true grid costs of their demand. (Missouri Independent)
The tariff mirrors Kansas’s recently approved framework, defining large loads as 75 MW at peak and imposing premium rates to ensure infrastructure upgrades and grid access aren’t subsidized by existing customers.
The state PUC backed Evergy’s proposal over an alternative from staff and the Office of Public Counsel, arguing the staff plan’s 25+ potential charges would deter investment by making bills unpredictable.
Commissioners said the agreement strikes a workable balance of protecting households and small businesses from cost shifts while giving Missouri a clearer path to compete for energy-intensive projects.
