NEWS: Midwest grid operator selects out of state firms to build Wisconsin transmission projects

MISO has tapped two out-of-state builders to bring massive transmission projects to life—and it’s making the case for competition. (WPR)

  • The grid operator rejected bids from two local heavyweights, insisting out-of-state comps demonstrated better “cost containment.” The price difference? For just one project, the capital cost for the winning out-of-state bid was $132M less than the local option.

  • Keep in mind: State lawmakers recently failed to pass a controversial right-of-first-refusal bill that would’ve handed state utilities dibs on building new high-voltage transmission lines.
