It’s official: SPP has linked the Eastern and Western grids. (Clean Technica)
This makes SPP the first RTO to serve two interconnections. The benefits? 1) Shared power across a wider region 2) access to cheaper wholesale energy markets and 3) spreading wind and solar resources over more of the grid.
Speaking of connections: NV Energy wants to join EDAM in fall 2028, and a draft order from PUCN seems to give them the go-ahead. The benefit? Around $93.1M in annual savings from joining EDAM vs. WEIM alone, a Brattle Group study projected. Compare that with an estimated $7.3M annual cost increase from joining SPP’s competing Markets+.
