PJM is lowering its forecast for power demand growth thanks to the recent AI boom reality check. (Bloomberg)
PJM, which is the biggest US grid operator, now expects peak demand for summer 2027 to come in at about 160 GW, down from a previous estimate of 164 GW.
Worth noting: Even though it’s ratcheting down peak estimates, PJM is still looking at considerable data center-driven growth, up 17% by 2030 from this year’s projected high. And by summer 2028? PJM expects to surpass its demand record of about 165 GW set in 2006.
