NEWS: Key Senate Democrats Oppose Permitting Bill

  • Senate Energy and Natural Resources ranking member Martin Heinrich, Environment and Public Works ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse, and Hawaii senator Brian Schatz yesterday publicly voiced their opposition to the SPEED Act.

  • Their POV: The lawmakers want a guarantee any positive permitting developments (which could meaningfully change NEPA) would also include clean energy—a possibly major concession for GOP legislators as the SPEED Act languishes in Congress.
