NEWS: Governors are banding together over their PJM grievances.

  • What happened: At a meeting in Chicago yesterday, officials launched the Governors’ Collaborative—a bipartisan org that aims to boost collaboration across PJM’s 13 states in the push to lower bills. “As Governors, we refuse to sit by idly as [PJM] prioritize[s] profits over people,” said Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker in a statement.

  • The background: The region’s state officials and consumer advocates are beefing with PJM industry members. Why? As wholesale power costs skyrocket, politicians say they’re getting shut out of key decision-making processes—and missing their chance to offer solutions.

  • Customers’ bills “are shaped by decisions made in rooms where states barely have a voice,” wrote Jon Ford, executive director of the Indiana Office of Energy Development, on LinkedIn.
