NEWS: 5 utility commissions ask FERC to undo MISO’s $22B multi-value transmission portfolio

Five state utility commissions are challenging MISO’s $22B Multi-Value Project transmission portfolio at FERC. (Utility Dive)

  • The group asked FERC to reconsider the classification of MISO’s transmission project portfolio for regional cost sharing, arguing that questionable modeling by the ISO inflated the value of projected regional benefits.

  • Sharing is caring…or is it? Costs of multi-value projects are shared across MISO’s footprint, but if the complaint is successful, portfolio costs would shift to local beneficiaries rather than dispersing them regionally.

  • Another interesting MISO headline today: Dynegy will pay $38M to settle allegations it manipulated MISO’s 2015-16 capacity auction by driving up capacity prices in Illinois.
