21 House Democrats are pressing PJM to fix its clogged interconnection queue and modernize how it brings new power online. (Utility Dive)
Led by Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.), the lawmakers urged PJM to adopt “connect and manage” techniques, improve modeling for battery storage, and factor in grid-enhancing technologies that can boost capacity faster and cheaper than traditional upgrades.
With electric rates up 20%+ in some PJM states and demand soaring, the lawmakers say PJM’s slow and outdated rules are making low-cost storage projects uneconomic and driving higher consumer prices.
The letter follows a FERC ruling that PJM failed to meet new interconnection standards. PJM must respond by Oct. 22.
