Demand response is becoming an important strategy for dealing with intermittent power sources such as wind and solar. The ability of utilities to tap clients to reduce their power during high demand times can eliminate the need for more peaker plants, storage and even clean energy generation. Large industrials want the option, as will, eventually, small businesses and homeowners. One approach is to allow aggregators to operate in utility territories and to encourage MISO and other ISOs to permit more aggregation.
