The last GW of demand

The hourly demand curve recorded by the National Integrated System in Brazil, shows that the "last" GW of demand (the peak) is associated - in order of magnitude - with around 3 GWh of power consumption.

This means that the utilization factor of this "last" capacity is very small, around 12%.

There are 24 hours in a day. If the capacity factor were 100%, consumption would be 24 GWh.

What I want to draw your attention to is the interest and convenience of implementing in Brazil, without further delay, the DR(Demand Response) program.

The reason is very simple. 1 GW associated with investments that is only used at 12%, costs 8 times what would be incurred if it were used 100%.

And why is this observation important?

This cost, which exists due to the lack of a DR program, is unceremoniously transferred to all consumers.
