IEEE 2800 is our new standard for Grid Stability & IBR (Inverter-Based Resources)!

Look out for the new IEEE 2800 standard! With substantial momentum in #renewableenergy industry sparked by IRA, US market is well positioned to grow substantially over the next decade. The new IEEE 2800 standard is designed to tackle large scale renewable integration into the grid system and solidify requirements such as Voltage Ride-through, PFR, and Voltage/PF/Reactive power control.

Learning from CA outage events such as Blue Cut Fire that caused 500kV line fault losing 1.1GW of generation or Canyon 2 Fire that caused 2 transmission line fault causing substantial PV power plant loss, the next generation inverter based power plants must provide dynamic grid support feature sets. When grid voltage drops closer to zero point we no longer want to have power plants “protecting” the system and go into anti-islanding mode, instead they should protect the grid and support the dipping voltage dynamically through reactive power compensation. With tremendous amount of inverter-based resources implemented in the next decade, we all need to do our part to support the growing need to support and stabilize the next generation US grid system.
