I compared the hourly demand curve (blue line) for a day in October 2018 and a current day for this month of June 22 (yellow line).
As it can be seen, there was an important change in the profile of the curve.
The curve became that of the duck. In the afternoon there is a "strong and prolonged" ascent, contrasting with the tradition that was more "mild".
The importance of this analysis is linked to what has "already" been discovered in countries that have already strongly introduced "intermittent" energies such as wind and solar.
To face this duck curve, they decided to create new requirements such as storage associated with new solar projects. To mitigate the challenges caused by the change in the curve - which were not planned for the traditional power plants.
If we want to plan in Brazil, and be able to control this phenomenon that has arisen, better for everyone. Otherwise, it will be as usual, the costs arising from the duck curve will be passed on to everyone, without ceremony. It would be a shame because with the knowledge available, there is know how regarding to what's best!
