Construction is underway on the New York-based converter station for the 339-mile Champlain Hudson Power Express!

Yesterday (September 19) government officials and corporate stakeholders officially celebrated the start of construction on the converter station for the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE). The state-of-the-art facility is expected to be operating in 2026 and will be capable of converting 1,250 MW of high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) into alternating current (AC) via subterrestrial and submarine cables stretching from Québec, Canada/US border to Queens, New York. The lead contractor for the site is Kiewit, and Hitachi Energy is the HVDC technology provider for the converter station. Hydro Québec and TDI (a Blackstone portfolio company) have worked in partnership to develop the project. CHPE is a major power grid undertaking, and it is now well underway!
