Global energy demand reached a new record, 592 EJ in 2024 – this according to a new revealing chart produced by Visual Capitalist’s Dorothy Neufeld and Sabrina Lam. Despite the continued growth in renewables, traditional energy still dominates the global energy system – accounting for roughly 87% of total consumption. The rise in electricity demand, driven most by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and the growth in data centers, expanded at twice the pace of total energy consumption. Powering good!
