Drought’s Impact Becomes Clearer

The Western US suffered throught its worst drought in decades. As a result, electricity generation at California’s hydropower plants last year was 48% below the 10-year average (2011–2020), according to the US Energy Information Administration. In the Pacific Northwest, which consists of Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Idaho, hydropower generation fell 14% below its 10-year average. A return to normal weather condition would result in a big boost in hydropower and help those regions meet local energy demand.
