Case 7: transferring consumption to off-peak hours
A company in the aluminum transformation sector hired me to evaluate opportunities for reducing electricity costs.
The CEO initially informed me that he wanted solutions that would preferably not require investment, given the difficult (Brazilian) market conditions in the short and medium term.
After visiting the industrial park and analyzing the energy bills issued by the local utility company and the energy trader, I came up with a very simple and even attractive suggestion. I discovered that there was a typical work shift.
When there were more orders, a second shift was started based on overtime, which began in the late afternoon and continued into the night. I suggested that instead of using the late afternoon for this "extra", they should allocate it to the morning before normal working hours. The reason: instead of "invading" peak hours, the off-peak hours would be used.
The difference was noted on the utility company's bill. The customer was contracted to the green tariff. So the charges levied on the "wire" tariff were much lower off-peak. Simple, easy and quick to implement. No investment!
