Capacity Reserve Charge (ERCAP)

Capacity Reserve Charge (ERCAP)

The Brazilian electricity sector has just created the capacity charge. Its objective is to guarantee the continuity of the supply of electricity, especially in periods of high demand or when hydro, wind and solar generation is reduced.

I will not discuss its merits, but rather the way in which this charge is being "sold".

This month (readings for November 2024) companies and institutions, regulated or deregulated will be billed with this new (additional) charge.

The craziest thing about this situation is that no one I consulted - electricity trading companies and energy distributors knew (up until the eve of the billings) the $/kW)to be charged.

How can the customer, the energy consumer, plan in this environment? The electricity sector, once again, sets a terrible example.
