Wind, solar face future without subsidies

How important are government subsidies to maintaining our current renewable portfolios? Well, we're likely to find out in a few years, as the U.S. government has approved a plan to begin dwindling down solar and wind power subsidies -- 30% subsidy for the cost of installing new solar projects will drop to 10% by 2021 and an energy-generation credit will hit zero by 2025. For the government, this is the opposite direction that many analysts have said the country should go if we're to compete with China in the race toward a green and renewable future.
