Itโs been obvious to me that the current climate strategy was never going to achieve its stated goals. There are a multitude of reasons which I have highlighted over the years. I would see hints from the media of similar thinking when articles would occasionally touch upon similar themes. However, mostly what you see in the press is โchest beatingโ about the records being set by solar and wind.
True enough, and important to those who profit from solar and wind, but that isnโt the goal. The goal is to reduce the level of carbon emissions and so far, all those records arenโt getting it done. And that isnโt going to change.
But for the first time, an article titled ๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ค๐ช๐๐ก๐๐ ๐๐ฃ๐๐ง๐๐ฎ ๐๐ง๐๐ฃ๐จ๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ authored by Daniel Yergin, Peter Orszag, and Atul Arya and published in ๐๐ค๐ง๐๐๐๐ฃ ๐ผ๐๐๐๐๐ง๐จ magazine concisely summarizes the reasons why itโs time to rethink our approach.
Everyone who cares about climate change should read it because it provides a guide to how and why the thought process needs to change.
Yesterday we highlighted the articleโs review of how long energy transitions take. Today we discuss the argument the article lays out related to the unrealistic economics of the current strategy. Tomorrow weโll wrap up by summarizing the remaining factors touch on in the article.
