Brazil is at the bottom of the market when compared to the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) โ in terms of $/kWh.
This is a situation that has persisted for years! In other words, our Brazilian electricity sector institutions are unable to place Brazil on a competitive footing.
The direct cost of energy produced is competitive. But... when all "indirect" costs are included, we are at the bottom of the market. Power theft, crony projects, demand response programs that haven't taken off comprehensively, unnecessary subsidies that are charged to "others," and the list goes on.
As long as Brazil prefers to continue with the "current" leadership model (which has dominated the sector for decades), we will remain far from the top of the market.
