I have long thought that Tesla would not survive as a car company.
OK – Tesla Kool-Aid drinkers release the hate!
The reasons for this position are varied. It is true Tesla has enjoyed a technological advantage and continues to do so. The problem is the advantage was virtually meaningless because there was no appreciable market. They are the proverbial – albeit well-known – big fish in a small pond.
Now the pond is growing as is the competition from experienced car companies. This is the natural evolution of an emerging market. Add to that a distracted and sometimes erratic CEO, and you have a recipe trouble.
The good news is that the transition to EVs is not dependent on Tesla. I can envision a day when Tesla no longer exists as a car company. Regardless, at some point in the future, I also envision that all vehicles will be EVs or equivalent zero-emission modes of transportation.
Morgan Stanley conducts an annual survey of its interns. This post summarizes the survey’s results and what it means to Tesla - and more importantly - the EV market in general. Tesla: Troubles on the Horizon?
