The Soaring Twenties, Zero Avia | Farnborough International Airshow

An interesting talk this afternoon from Val Miftakhov, Founder & CEO of Zero Avia, at Farnborough where the international air show is in full swing.

Val Miftakhov,, Farnborough, 2024

I listened with some interest as as he outlined the vision for Zero Avia, but based upon green premise, rather than Grey, or some of the other forms that are out there and based around renewables, ultimately, which is interesting for the wider sector.

He focused not just on the carbon element, but on the wider emissions debate, which rules out some of the other prospects that are out there, including the merging hydrogen combustion engines, which still have problems with con trails, high temperature Contrails and NOx emissions.

Zero Avia are starting on the smaller aeroplanes then working through the value chain with Hydrogen the best long-term option for a sector embittering upwards of 5% of global emissions

Zero Avia may be a small company, but there are some very big players, stroke investors alongside them, not least the company I worked closely with, called Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, who work closely with the the offshore wind team in SSCE, and also Airbus, with their stated significant drive towards net zero.

A lively post presentation Q and A saw some smart answers to wider concerns about universal hydrogen going bus. But he says sometimes, although you don't want a competitor to go under, it can work to your advantage. Not least some of the talent that zero Ava is able to bring on board to their team. For the wider picture, some skilled talent coming on board.

The green agenda is centre stage at Farnborough this year.
