NEWS: US firms to develop Syria energy masterplan after Trump lifts sanctions

Three American energy companies will draft Syria’s energy master plan, following the reversal of tight US sanctions on the nation last month. (Reuters)

  • Baker Hughes, Hunt Energy, and Argent LNG are preparing a blueprint to rebuild Syria’s oil, gas, and power sectors. The plan is expected to boost oil exploration, output, and electricity supply as Syria seeks recovery from years of conflict and economic isolation.

  • Currently, the country’s electric sector generates only 1.6 GW of power—down from close to 10 GW before 2011.
