NEWS: Power producers ask FERC to reverse MISO’s $280M capacity auction ‘adjustment’

Power producers are asking FERC to block a $280M adjustment by MISO. (Utility Dive)

  • After discovering a software coding error that skewed reserve margin calculations for the 2025-26 auction, MISO retroactively corrected the payouts, which effectively cut the clearing price in the South by 56% and in the North by 31%.

  • Independent producers argue this violates the “filed rate doctrine” (you can’t change the price after the deal is done). If grid operators can rewrite auction results months later because of internal IT failures, it destroys the revenue certainty investors need to build plants.
