  • The context: Companies with extensive know-how in oil & gas, like Baker Hughes, are increasingly lending a hand in geothermal development. After all, they’ve got the expertise to sniff out subservice energy reserves and dig deep for them.

  • Yesterday, Baker Hughes announced a collaboration with advanced-geothermal startup XGS Energy on a geothermal project set to power Meta’s data centers in New Mexico.

  • It’s not Baker Hughes’s first foray into geothermal: Last fall, the company announced a partnership with Controlled Thermal Resources on a 500-MW phase of one of the world’s biggest geothermal projects. Hell's Kitchen, located in California, is slated to come online between 2028-2029.
