NEWS: Federal agencies, including FERC and DOE, revoke environmental review rules

Federal agencies just rewrote the rules on how energy projects get reviewed—and climate’s been cut from the script. (Utility Dive)

  • In response to President Trump’s executive order and a recent Supreme Court ruling, FERC, DOE, and other agencies revoked regulations governing environmental reviews of proposed projects under NEPA, removing requirements to consider climate change, environmental justice, and public input.

  • Earthjustice warned the move weakens protections, while FERC released a new manual to keep projects legally durable in court. Some agencies also offered nonbinding guidance in place of regulations.
