NEWS: Dominion proposes higher utility rates, new rate class for data centers

Dominion is asking Virginia regulators to approve higher bills for households and a new rate class for data centers. (Virginia Mercury)

  • Residential bills would rise by $8.51/month in 2026 and another $2 in 2027, plus a $10.92/month fuel hike tied to gas costs and PJM capacity rates. Dominion says rising material and fuel costs make the increases unavoidable.

  • The utility also wants a separate rate class for large users over 25 MW—mainly data centers—with 14-year contracts and minimum demand charges to ensure new infrastructure costs aren’t shifted to other customers.
