NEWS: Data center developers are shelling out millions to accelerate the grid buildout.

  • QTS is handing ITC Midwest $55M to speed up transmission construction for its 1-GW Iowa data center campus. The developer aims to bring the 345-kV line online in May 2027, four months earlier than planned. That might not sound like long, but in these builds time is (a lot of) money.

  • And in Wyoming, Microsoft is on the hook for nearly $40M in construction costs for Cheyenne Light, Fuel & Power's new 115-kV substation (and associated transmission lines), Halcyon reported. These will serve the tech giant’s nearby data center.
