NEWS: ConEd ramps up disconnections as it seeks 11% price hike

Con Edison disconnected almost 2.5% of all its New York-area customers between January and June this year, despite record high temperature records. (The Guardian)

  • In the last six months, Con Edison shut off service to over 88K customers unable to cover the costs of their energy bills. ConEd previously requested an 11% rate increase.

  • Bigger picture: In the past five years, north of 40% of New Yorkers have fallen into arrears, and 23% of households have been disconnected at least once.
