Massachusetts passes bill to speed clean energy and slow gas expansion

I'm so glad I have a backup generator for my house. This bill can't possibly be good for electric system reliability.

"the “small clean transmission and 481 distribution infrastructure facility” shall be: (A) designed, fully or in part, to directly interconnect 482 or otherwise facilitate the interconnection of clean energy infrastructure to the electric grid; (B) 483 designed to ensure electric grid reliability and stability; or (C) designed to help facilitate the 484 electrification of the building and transportation sectors; and provided further, that a “small clean 485 transmission and distribution infrastructure facility” shall not include new transmission and 486 distribution infrastructure facilities that solely interconnect new or existing generation powered 487 by fossil fuels to the electric grid on or after January 1, 2026."

Not to worry though, geothermal energy will fill the gap caused when no gas generators are available to produce energy. Just one question "Where will these geothermal heat pumps get the electricity they need to power the pumps and fans?"

I'm all for producing the cleanest electricity we possibly can, so long as we continue to provide reliable, resilient electric service to the residents of MA at a just and reasonable cost by choosing the lowest cost methods to generate this clean, reliable and resilient energy, 24x7 all year long, under all weather conditions.
