Mapping e-methane plants and technologies

 e-methane is a readily available solution that can help meet the EU's energy and climate goals. It can help integrate biogas into the gas grid and increase methane production.
 There are 35 operational e-methane plants in Europe as of the end of 2023, with a total capacity of over 2,800 GWh/year.
The majority of e-methane production projects inject or will inject the e-methane into the gas grid (51%), while 11% of the e-methane projects have transport as a destination.

The report concludes that e-methane has the potential to become a key component of the EU’s renewable gas strategy. However, it also identifies challenges and opportunities, including:
