Lhyfe produces first kilogrammes of offshore renewable hydrogen

Lhyfe has today (June 27) announced its offshore hydrogen production pilot project has produced its first kilogrammes of hydrogen.

May not sound much but given the amount of innovation involved it may prove a significant milestone

he Sealhyfe platform was towed 20km into the Atlantic and connected to the SEM-REV offshore testing site near Central Nantes, France, and as of June 20 (2023), has been producing hydrogen, marking a decisive milestone for Lhyfe.

Capable of producing 400kg of hydrogen per day, the compact platform utilises a 1MW electrolyser supplied by Plug Power, that will be tested in real-world conditions to study the platform’s movement, environmental stresses and validate its software.

Prior to the offshore testing, Sealhyfe was moored at the Quai des Frégates in the Port of Saint-Nazaire, where it went under benchmarking and technology and system optimisation tests between September 2022 and May 2023
