How much does each energy source in Brazil really cost?
This question ought to be central! It really should be!
Energy supplied by a "firm" power plant should be priced more competitively than that from a "non-firm" plant—reflecting the reality of the costs actually incurred.
Instead, all sources are lumped together. Even "non-firm" sources receive incentives to make them "competitive."
The cost of these "maneuvers" is ultimately borne by everyone, as regulations mandate this allocation.
Consequently—and regrettably—there is no "cost meritocracy" based on competitiveness.
In this scenario, Brazil has long lagged behind the other BRICS nations in terms of $/kWh. But... does anyone care?
