The governments of Ceará and the Netherlands to launch the Green Hydrogen Corridor

The governments of Ceará and the Netherlands will launch the Green Hydrogen Corridor on the 10th of May, when Prime Minister Mark Rutte will come to Ceará. A live link with transmission from Pecém to the World Hydrogen Summit 2023, in Rotterdam, will seal the partnership that aims to transport the H2V produced in Ceará lands directly to the Netherlands.

The route has been planned since the H2V boom in the world, since Pecém is seen as one of the ports with the greatest potential to attract enterprises generating the new fuel and Rotterdam is considered the main gateway to all of Europe.

"It is a symbolic visit, first of all, to show the importance of this partnership and the importance of the Port of Pecém for the supply of green hydrogen in Europe through the Port of Rotterdam", emphasized Hugo Figueirêdo, president of the Complexo do Pecém, about the relationship between the two terminals.

Rutte arrives in Ceará on May 9, according to state secretary Roseane Medeiros (International Affairs). The visit to the complex takes place the following day.

Ceara's potential

Today, Ceará has 24 memorandums of understanding related to H2V signed between investors and the government of Ceará. Of these, three had pre-contracts sealed and already have a reserved area in the Export Processing Zone of Ceará to install the factories.

They are: Fortescue, Casa dos Ventos and AES. The amount of investment estimated in these three ventures alone is around US$ 8 billion. In addition, the Port of Pecém must invest R$ 2.2 billion to provide the terminal with infrastructure capable of housing the projects.

Realization and more protocols

Figueirêdo explains that he will be in Holland on the day of the event, while Governor Elmano de Freitas (PT) should receive the Prime Minister. The launch of the Green Hydrogen Corridor still raises the expectation of signing new protocols.

"There's more to be signed there in Rotterdam, wait", promised Figueirêdo.

The ceremony will be part of the schedule of one of the biggest H2V events on the planet. The organization of the World Hydrogen Summit projects the meeting, between 9 and 11 May, of 8,000 decision makers, energy ministers and CEOs from more than 100 countries gathered at Rotterdam Ahoy.

"The Prime Minister's own visit is a clear signal that there is a demand from the European market. The Netherlands, together with Germany, have already committed funds, resources from their government to stimulate the demand for green hydrogen in their respective countries and therefore , facilitate and encourage this export", highlights Figueirêdo.

Partnership with Rotterdam

He also points to the close partnership with Rotterdam as essential for the creation of this corridor. In 2018, with a view to expanding exports from Ceará to Europe of various items, the government of Ceará negotiated with the Dutch government the assignment of 30% of the Port of Pecém.

The investment of 7.5 billion euros was made by the Port of Rotterdam - controlled by the Dutch government - in the Ceará terminal. As a result, he gained the power to hold positions on the Executive Board, Audit Board and Board of Directors.
