False Alarm: No Snow in the Forecast

Last week, the weather channels predicted  a massive snow storm and turned out a false alarm. This morning New York City woke up to a lot of snow; what’s interesting is that there was no snow in the forecast, yet we got a lot. The future 100% clean and renewable energy systems will rely significant on renewable resources that are weather dependent, thus the need for a very a accurate weather forecast that predicts solar irradiance, cloud activity, ambient and humidity on a per second basis. As seen from the pictures, the solar panels were covered with snow and even after few hours, many panels are still completely or partially covered. Also, snow buildup on poles and equipment adds extra weight to utility assets. In addition to tree branches that get heavier and fall on distribution lines resulting in temporary or permanent faults. I am optimistic that AI will help enhance the weather prediction, because our faith in the cure t weather forecasting tools is very low, if any.
