Expansion planning
Important changes in the energy usage profile are already occurring.
Large-scale loads such as data centers, electric cars and the replacement of petroleum derivatives with electricity are also creating a new and very challenging scenario.
How can Brazil prepare to meet this demand?
There are two approaches that are “in the pipeline”.
The typical Brazilian approach is to just keep pushing things along. While providing consultancy services for a data center for a multinational company, I found that the local concessionaire (well-known and one of the largest in the country) informed the client that, in order to meet the desired load, it would take 7 years to fulfill all the requirements.
Yes, 7 years! So what? Other countries, which are more agile and interested in business development, offer much shorter deadlines. Around 2 years, according to what the client told me.
Is Brazil capable of competing with this approach?
