Energy: marginal costs signals
The classical perception is: the power generating close to the load as being the most efficient. But there is another look, associated with marginal costs that deserves to be considered.
Measured in USD/installed kW, the investment in power distribution is much smaller than the generation. Be it for large power plants, far from the loads or distributed generation like solar.
Activities that increase the load factor of the generation will probably have a much more attractive economic result than the alternatives. Of course distributed generation will always have its space. But ... if there is a possibility of comparing the expansion of supply with marginal costs vis-Ă -vis new investments in distributed generation, it is best to find out the most interesting and convenient.
