Big LNG cargoes, gas storage facilities are crucial reserves for the winter. Even if all of Germany's storage facilities were fully stocked, the country's yearly gas demand, which was over 1 million gigawatt hours in 2021, could not be satisfied with just a quarter of that amount. Germany therefore requires both continuous supply from pipelines and LNG terminals in addition to its storage facilities being as full as feasible in order to survive the winter.
