The price of energy sold on the free market is R$140/MWh. For corporate and institutional consumers, there is also the demand charge.

Taking ENEL's rates in SĂŁo Paulo as an example, this is R$21/kW/month. This demand rate is equivalent to approximately R$100/MWh considering that the consumer operates in 1 shift. This means that considering demand and energy it comes to R$ 240/MWh.

Of course, these are approximate figures. The harsh reality shows that the total bill paid, including taxes and all costs authorised by ANEEL (regulator) for the electricity sector, reaches R$800/MWh.

It is high time to evaluate the list of costs that make up this difference between R$240/MWh and R$800/MWh with a view to achieving efficiency. Or it doesn't matter?
