Energy: An Example of Cost Reduction

Residential electricity bills are regulated, in Brazil, by increasing rates based on consumption.

One alternative that has proven very interesting is to "mix" gas with electricity. I implemented the following solution in practice.

The showers are powered by gas-fired instantaneous water heaters. A couple lives in this house. Each takes two showers: in the morning after exercising and at night before bed. That's 1 hour a day of shower use!

Thus, instead of operating with electricity, they reduce consumption from the utility company by using gas.

The reduction in electricity consumption resulted in a much lower average bill!

Before this solution, the average cost seen by the customer (total electricity bill, divided by consumption) was much higher than after(electricity bill plus gas bill)!

This is a simple solution that can be applied to companies and institutions, considering, of course, the different conditions than in this example. The important consideration is the concept of seeking the minimum total cost!
